The development of Changning District has kept in pace with the reforms and
opening in Shanghai. Since 1986 when the landmark Hongqiao Economic and
Technological Development Zone was created as the first state-level one in
Shanghai, the District’s economy has been in a fast track of growth.
Sustained growth over the two decades has contributed to the quick expansion
in the District’s economy. In 2005, RMB6.68 billion in added value placed the
District No.5 among Shanghai’s downtown districts. The District’s fiscal revenue
was RMB3.65 billion, the 4th highest among nine districts downtown.
International trade totaled US$897 million, ranking the 1st among all districts.
During the 11th “Five-Year-Plan,” the District will operate under the
blueprint of Shanghai, enhance the development of Hongqiao, improve its
functions from every aspect, beef up digital technologies and strive to make
itself an international district.
