Roman Chevalier (France)
When I made my first visit to Window on China located on 8F of Changning
Library, I had not expected that I would come to such a wonderful place. I was
much fascinated by the comfortable and quiet space, where the desks and chairs
made it easy to work here. Especially during summer time, owing to the air
conditioning facilities, I feel so great in such a comfortable place as if I
were at home. The subdued lights protect the eyes from fatigue. It enthralls the
readers with everything here.
An extensive range of books and publication is provided here: publication and
living information in foreign languages; books about Chinese history and
culture, as well as books about Shanghai 2010 World Expo, in English, German,
Spanish, Japanese, Korean, French, Arabian and many other languages; books about
western culture in the fields such as photography, design, and management,
providing a full choice to foreign readers who are interested in Chinese culture
and history. As French is my mother tongue, I’m very excited to see so many
French books about China. I once read an interesting book titled Living in
China, a really useful one introducing Chinese traditions, food, handicrafts,
fashion, tea and so forth.
All the books are brand new and very useful.
The staff here is very friendly and professional.
I enjoyed reading and working here very much, as it is a quiet place only 5
minutes’ walk from the metro station. I strongly recommend you to visit
Changning Library.
My suggestions
It’s more in western style. However, as it is called Window on China, I’d
like to see a natural combination of Chinese and western elements in furniture,
decoration and ornaments.
As it is Window on China, I’d like to see more books on Chinese food,
cooking, tourism, art, as well as animals and plants.
I also expect some lectures on issues such as cooking and tea arts, as well
as seminars regarding cultural difference between China and other countries in
etiquette, thinking mode, mindset and etc.
